THE WINERY
The winery Manzone Giovanni is a family-run business founded in 1925, when Giovanni Manzone decided to buy the "Ciabot del Preve" ("Priest's house") to start making wine from his grapes in Castelletto. Later the family decided to expand by buying vineyards in Castelletto and Gramolere, two of the best crus in Monforte D’Alba.
Giovanni's children, Mauro and Mirella, graduated from the historic Oenological School of Alba, today work together with their father, managing the winery and the production.
The production is focused on high quality, limited to about 50,000 bottles a year to ensure the high level standard.
The altitude (350-500 meters above the sea level), the extreme slope of the vineyards and the unique terroir that characterizes the Langhe area, allow a low natural production of grapes, giving birth to wines, ready even when young. These are among the most concentrated and long lasting wines of the Barolo area.
The winery’s vineyards are cultivated according to the principles of healthy and sustainable viticulture. The grass that grows naturally in the vineyards is cut and left on the ground to transform into humus, a natural fertilizer. All the wines produced are not clarified, not filtered and the quantities of SO2 added are minimal.
The winery's commitment to sustainability
The Green Experience is a collective certification, which also includes the winery Giovanni Manzone. Integrated and sustainable, it is dedicated to Piedmontese wines, aiming to the conservation of the natural resources of the soil and its biodiversity, enhancing the instinctive production methods and taking care of the UNESCO hilly landscape of the Langhe, Roero and Monferrato.
The Green Experience is the result of an experimental project called "Rethinking and sustainable viticulture", born from the will of the Piedmontese wineries to respond to consumers' expectations of integrating ecological production mechanisms with environmental and aesthetic care of the hilly landscape, allowing producers to start a process of ecological improvement in the management of the vineyard and the landscape.
The eco-sustainability promoted by The Green Experience is the result of a daily commitment of the winegrower and the choice of collaborating beyond the borders of their own vineyard.
